Monitoring Your Server
Monitoring an ObjectStore Server means viewing the diagrams that represent the current state of a selected Server and its resource consumption. OPE displays these diagrams on your screen. You use the Server Monitor to start and stop monitoring any ObjectStore Server in your network. You can view different Servers with one invocation of the Server Monitor by starting another copy of the Server Monitor from the File menu.
OPE helps you measure many aspects of the Server's workload and its resource consumption. You can view different kinds of measurements at the same time. You can specify how often OPE takes Server measurements (sampling rate) and you can define the period of time that OPE shows you in the diagrams (view interval). For example, you can specify that OPE takes a new status of the Server meter every minute and displays the results for one hour.
You can specify threshold values for the meters that the Server Monitor displays. When the threshold is exceeded you get a graphical alert and, in addition, you can let the Server Monitor launch a user exit program.
As an additional feature of the Server Monitor, you can store the measurements in log files. Once a log file is written, you can use the Server Monitor to view it.
This chapter shows you how to invoke the Server Monitor and how to work with the diagrams.
